The Challenges of Caring for a Loved One with Dementia
Dementia is a progressive disease that slowly affects the memory, personality, and physical abilities of a person to the point…
A way of coping with many unforeseen changes that take place in life.
SueAnnPaige, mother of three, grandmother of six, and great-grandma of five, became a widow at the age of seventy-nine. At the age of eighty, she gathered personal medical records, notes from her journals, and many memories to complete the story of being a Caregiver to her husband Rick. More than two years later, she completed her first- published book, A Caregiver’s Diary.
SueAnnPaige has written numerous poems as a hobby and sometimes was a Ghostwriter for others. Making her own greeting cards with original poems has also been one of her enjoyments. She was also the recipient of a blue ribbon for her story that was submitted in the local County Fair Literary contest.
She’s involved with church activities, socializes with her friends often, enjoys Bingo and Bunco at the Elks Lodge, volunteers with the Huntsman World Sr. Games, and lives with the love-of-her-life Gidget.
A Caregiver’s Diary is the diary of SueAnnPaige as she talks about the challenges of caring for her husband, Rick, who faced dementia. The book discusses their life together, starting from when they first met, when Rick was healthy and happy, to the gradual changes that began to affect his health.
Through detailed notes and reflections, SueAnnPaige documents the small issues that turned into bigger problems over time. Her writing aims to help others who are going through similar experiences or know someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
This book offers a glimpse into both the good and the difficult moments they faced together. SueAnnPaige hopes that by sharing her story, she can provide comfort and insight to others on this journey. Each caregiver’s experience is unique, and A Caregiver’s Diary highlights the importance of these individual stories while connecting with anyone who has cared for a loved one with dementia.
This diary was kept as my way of coping with many unforeseen changes that were taking place in my life, my husband’s life, and our marriage. We had planned for our retirement years to be happy and filled with travel plans, to spend more time visiting our children who were spread from one state to another, and to just enjoy life.
I dedicate this diary to all Caregivers who have survived their journey from beginning to end, to those who are somewhere in the middle, and to all who will some day be called upon to assume that responsibility for someone near and dear to them.
Keep your faith, stay strong, and keep smiling!
